One of the most beautiful residences of the “Corona di Delizie” of the Savoy dynasty, Villa della Regina is recently re-emerged from a state of abandonment, to return to be the royal residence of centuries ago.
Built at the beginning of the seventeenth century on the hill of Turin, it was the favorite residence of the Savoy Queens. Here lived Maria Anna d’Orléans, wife of Vittorio Amedeo II, Polyxena of Hesse, the wife of Carlo Emanuele III and Maria Antonia Ferdinanda of Spain, wife of Vittorio Amedeo III. When the Kingdom of Italy moved to Rome, the Villa lost its function, experiencing a period of neglect, then aggravated by the damages suffered during the two World Wars.
In 1994 the villa became the property of the Superintendence for the Historical, Anthropological Heritage of Piedmont, in agreement with the Superintendence for Architectural, Landscape Archaeological Heritage. Thanks to public and private fundings, the Villa discovered its historic splendor and in 1997 was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Since 2006 it has been open to the public.
You enter the complex from the hill behind the Great Mother. When you arrive you will be greeted by the fountains of the Grand Rondeau Neptune and right and left, the ramps will lead you to access the historic home.The rest is a spectacular surprise: frescoes, decorations, halls and royal apartments, which overlook the Italian gardens at the rear of the dwelling. The Villa is in fact known for the green fields, paths and fountains such as the noble ladies loved strolling centuries ago.
To give greater prestige and visibility to the Villa, the recent Association “Friends of Villa della Regina”, organizes initiatives to promote the residence.
