They were built in the 1930s by FIAT\u2019s founder Giovanni Agnelli to provide a holiday retreat for the workers in the FIAT factory down in Turin.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1302\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dearitaly.com\/piedmont\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2014\/11\/Sestriere-summer.jpg\" alt=\"Sestriere-summer\" width=\"642\" height=\"335\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.dearitaly.com\/piedmont\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2014\/11\/Sestriere-summer.jpg 642w, http:\/\/www.dearitaly.com\/piedmont\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2014\/11\/Sestriere-summer-150x78.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.dearitaly.com\/piedmont\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2014\/11\/Sestriere-summer-300x156.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.dearitaly.com\/piedmont\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2014\/11\/Sestriere-summer-640x335.jpg 640w, http:\/\/www.dearitaly.com\/piedmont\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2014\/11\/Sestriere-summer-91x48.jpg 91w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 642px) 100vw, 642px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But Sestriere today isn\u2019t just a winter resort: in the summer it is possible to play golf on Europe\u2019s highest 18-hole course and more recently it has seen a huge increase in the number of mountain bikers coming out to sample the slopes without the snow.
